Oftentimes we are faced with some problems arising from our skins and our hair and these are the two things that say a lot about who we are. We spend a lot of money in making sure that our skin and hairs are in their best condition. It, therefore, has become normal to head out to the drugstore to get products that can offer us complete or some sort of relief. The good news is that you may not need to do that again as some of the things you already have in your home may be all you need to fix that problem.
Chipping or peeling lips
This is a common condition we experience when faced with harsh weather conditions, poor nutrition or when crossing a phase in life. To restore that lustrous lip you used to have, wet a soft face towel or any other soft material you can lay your hands on and dip into a bottle of brown sugar. Gently rub it on your lips for about a minute and watch as the chapped dead skin gives way for new layers of skin on the lip. After that wash it off and apply coconut oil for deep moisturising. You can also decide to mix half teaspoon of honey with olive oil (1 teaspoon) and apply on the lips overnight. You will love the result in the morning.
Acne problems
Acne is not a new problem for many people. For a home treatment, you will require getting four drops of tree oil and three tablespoons of aloe vera gel. Mix the two together and rub on the problem areas. If you have time you can do it up to two times in a day. The polysaccharides and gibberellins that are present in aloe vera help in tackling the bacteria that causes acne. It also fights against inflammations, heal spots or scars and then encourage new skin growth. The tree oil also has its own antimicrobial and antibacterial properties that fight against chapping.
Stubborn or frizzy hair
An unkempt hair is in the least attractive. If your hair proves stubborn to manage, get half of an avocado pear and mix with two teaspoons of olive oil. Massage the two mixtures into your hair when it is a little damp. You can leave it on for 10-20 minutes and rinse off afterwards. Apply a conditioner to it and the result you will get when dried will amaze you.
Dry Skin
For dry skins, you will need to mix 5 tablespoons of white sugar, juice of half a lemon and a teaspoon of olive oil. Apply on the body with your palms or with your sponge if you prefer and leave it on for 3 minutes before washing off in the shower. The dead skins are tackled with the natural alpha-hydroxy that is found in lemons which loosen the “glue” that holds down the dead skin to the body. The sugar acts as an exfoliator to get rid of the dead skin and encourages production of news skin. The skin gets its nourishment and moisturising from the Vitamin E that comes with the olive oil.
Dry Cuticles
If you have the problem of dry cuticles especially if you want to apply nail polish or to fix false nails, you’ll need to get rid of the cuticle on your nail to achieve the best result. For this, you will only need coconut oil and your body cream. Take some drop of the coconut oil and a tiny portion of your cream and mix together. Rub it into each cuticle. You can also put on plastic gloves for about 10 minutes for better results.
Ingrown Hairs
This one might sound a little weird but to treat ingrown hairs you will need to dissolve four tablets of Aspirin in a half glass of warm water, stir until dissolved and then add 1 teaspoon honey to it. Rub in the mixture into the affected areas and wait for 10 minutes. Then rinse off with warm water. The salicylic acid contained in Aspirin serves as a very effective exfoliator and also has anti-inflammatory properties that reduce the swelling that accompanies ingrown hairs. However, if you have sensitive skin, do well to steer clear of this treatment.
Bonus – (Brown or Stained teeth)
This one is a bonus. We know many people long for a white and sparkling teeth but get discouraged when they are told the huge amount of money they have to pay at the hospital to get the result. Not to worry, you can achieve that at the comfort of your home for few pennies. For this, you will need 1 teaspoon of water and 3 teaspoons of baking soda. Mix it together to form a paste. Then with your toothbrush, dab it into the paste and rub against your teeth for not more than 2 minutes and rinse off with water. You will notice a difference in the colour of your teeth and a fading of the stains. You can do this once in a week or two times at most. It’s not to be done daily because of the acidity of the mixture which may affect your teeth negatively when used daily.
